MEET MIKEM NAHMIR: UNDERGROUND L.A. RAPPER

Updated: Apr 25, 2020

This is Mikem Nahmir.

Mikem, tell us more about how you got started in music?

Music has always been a part of my life. I have a lot of musicians in what I consider to be my family and they all have influenced me to do something with music.

I didn't know I was musically inclined or had any kind of talent until I went to prison a few years ago. That's where my mind opened up and I started writing little raps here and there.

I didn't record anything or start taking anything seriously until my girlfriend died in 2017.

My friend suggested that I find something to do in order to deal with the pain of losing the love of my life and music was what we decided to do. Now we here, and I couldn’t be anymore happier about it.

What is the most difficult aspect about starting a career in Hip-Hop?

In my opinion, the most difficult part about getting started is getting what you need to actually make the music.

Anybody can get a beat off YouTube, but you can't just go outside and get a microphone and a laptop with the proper recording program.

But, I promise that once you have that set up and muster up the courage and confidence to make your music, nothing and no one can stop you. You gotta stay true.

What would you say separates your distinct sound from everyone else?

The truth. A lot of people don't know how to tell the truth with their music anymore.

Everyone sounds the same when they talk about the money, cars, clothes and hoes. Everybody is talking about their jewels and their drug habits and it only sounds cool because everyone is doing it.

Not me. I don't sound like anyone rapping right now and no one rapping right now sounds like me. I'm 100% honest about everything I do, think, say, and feel when it comes to my music.

I give the people who have been wanting something different the satisfaction they seek by being something different.

They don't make em like me no more.

Who are your biggest influences in music and why?

Off top, Chynna Rogers is my biggest influence. Everything she did and was doing was perfect. Everything about her was perfect.

When my girlfriend died in 2017, Chynna helped me get through it. She hit me up everyday for like 3 days straight just checking in on me. She was the one that said I should find something to do and rap is what I ended up doing.

When it comes to other artists, I really like Dirty Dell, Adonis, Vince Staples, Huey Briss, Sstray, Mach Hommy, Tha God Fahim, Navy Blue, Alchemist, Knxwledge, etc.

Is there anything that is new or upcoming that we can expect to see from Mikem Nahmir?

I just released an album last month called, "The Many Faces of Mikem Nahmir" which is on all platforms right now. I also have a brand new EP that just released yesterday on all platforms called, "MADNESS."

It has beats from my friends Supernalist, Aye.Sea and James Mooney. Me and the homies got a lot of music on the way this year so stay tuned.
