This is Yonnie.
Yonnie, tell us more about how you got started in modeling?
When I was in 7th grade, I was always told that I naturally looked like a model.
Since I was always told this, it definitely sparked my interest.
By the time I turned 15, I started to actually pursue modeling. I did my first photoshoot and instantly fell in love with it all.
I quickly learned that social media is a great tool to use in the model space and contacted a local modeling agency: Chic Nouvelle Talent and Modeling Agency on Instagram.
After my first casting call, I built a very strong relationship with the owner of the agency and everything sort of prospered after that.
What is the most difficult aspect about being a model?
The most difficult aspect about being a model is definitely the fitting requirements for agencies, events, or fashion designer's visions.
Discrimination within the modeling industry still continues today.
Even though times have changed from traditional modeling to more of a modern modeling style, behind close doors, it isn't uncommon to experience racism from time to time.
Me, being a very petite and short woman, leaves me in group of models who are last to be picked for modeling merchandise down the runway.
Yonnie – What sort of advice would you give aspiring models who look up to you?
The best advice I can give is to always believe in yourself even when no one else is.
Keep pushing. You won't be the "new, unexperienced" model forever. It really gets so much better and the modeling community is amazing.
And also, take this career seriously.
I know that social media has lowered the standards and expectations of what a real model is, and that people are starting to believe that taking cute pictures during golden hour makes you a model ... and its not.
Your job is to promote and market a brand or service. Don't let the culture of Instagram make you forget that.
Do you have anything that is new or upcoming that we can expect to see from you?
Of course! I always have something in store and coming up!
Since we've been in quarantine, I've created many new photoshoot concepts.
I've reached out to other models, photographers, and social media influencers looking to collaborate with me.
Also, I signed up for upcoming casting calls and this year again I will be featured in New York Fashion Week (NYFW).
