ARTIST ON THE WATCH: LEXX SAMPLEZ

Lexx, tell us more about how you got into music?

I've loved music my whole life.

For as long as I can remember, music has been a part of my life from the very beginning.

I woke up every morning to my mom blasting all the Mexican hits while she was cleaning and my dad playing it in his car, so that's really all I knew until I was like five or six.

The first rapper I ever heard in my life was, "50 Cent", and the first album I ever owned was Usher's "Confessions", that was bought for me by my mom.

I remember wanting to be just like them and telling everybody that I wanted to be a rapper/singer when I grew up.

That led me to love the genres. I grew up idolizing Lil Wayne & The Game, my rap style literally comes from them.

I idolized singers like Usher, Michael Jackson, The-Dream, etc. That's where my love for Hip-Hop and R&B was born.

They've been my go-to genre's ever since. Fast forward to an eleven year old me, I wrote my first song and the rest was history.

My middle school days were when I really decided to start making my own music, but high school was when I started to take it really seriously.

I had taught myself how to play the guitar and how to write a properly formatted song. I haven't turned back since.

As time went on, I continued to master my craft/style and I noticed I was starting to get some local recognition in my neighborhood due to me constantly releasing music online, as well as a couple of mixtapes that garnered some buzz in my area.

The feeling of having someone recognize you for your music was something I loved, so I promised myself I would keep going until everyone is aware of my art and my movement.

How would you describe your style/sound & how is it different?

I would like to think that my sound is different from others. To get to the point, I'm a rapper that loves to sing.

I'm a BIG melody driven artist and you'll hear it in my music. My sound is a mixture of hip-hop (West Coast hip-hop to be exact) and R&B.

I try to blend those genres in the majority of my songs, although I do have some pieces that are only hip-hop and some that are only R&B.

I produce/engineer my music as well, so I feel that gives me the freedom to take my sound and develop it however I want.

I love making dark music, and when I say "dark", I mean that in a somewhat depressing way.

A lot of minor chords, with smooth but hard bass lines that will put you in that mood.

As weird as it may sound, a lot of my inspiration comes from being sad or depressed. I feed off of it, whether it's current sadness or sadness from the past.

I'm a Cancer so I feel like that's just the Cancer inside me.

But like I said before, Hip-Hop & R&B were my first loves so that's what I stuck with. & it's worked so far.

Thank God.

Your music has received high praise! What would you say to aspiring artists who look up to you?

If you really want it, take it.

That's it.

That's been my motto for as long as I know, as well as for my collective, The Takerz Club.

Hustle like if you're on your last dollar.

I've been making music for over ten years and the #1 thing I've learned so far is that success will not be handed to you.

You gotta work for it. Not only do you gotta work for it, but you gotta work HARD for it.

Not everybody is going to be on your side, and not everybody is going to see your vision the way you do.

Therefore, you're going to have to take matters into your own hands eventually.

Be aggressive when it comes to reaching your dreams and goals.

Do you have anything new or upcoming we can expect to see from you?

Specifically, music videos!

Lately, I've been working on my content game and I have a lot of visuals coming soon.

I believe my next video will be for the intro off my last album, so be on the lookout for that!

Other than that, I'm currently just working on promoting what I have now.

I just released my sophomore album, "Lucky Me" back in May, if you haven't heard it please check it out it's available on all streaming services.

I also just released a new single called, "Been That Way" that is hosted by West Coast LEGEND and one of my favorite rappers of all time, The Game.

I recently just dropped that one on July 22nd to celebrate my 23rd birthday, so go check that out as well on all platforms!
