ARTIST ON THE WATCH: NIKKI V

Nikki, tell us a little more about how you got into music!

Music has always been a part of my life.

I knew from an early age that I wanted to be a musician.

Singing always felt so naturally for me.

It has always allowed me to express my feeling and emotions in a healthy way.

What does your creative process look like when it comes to writing songs?

The inspiration for my songs comes from life experiences, that I have or others around me have.

Sometimes it starts with a melody in my head, or sometimes it starts with some thing that was said or done.

I find I write my best material after a break up, or through a life altering event.

Any experience that makes me really emotional can make a great song.

What would you say to any aspiring artists who look up to your work?

The best advice I could give is be true to who you are as an artist.

And don’t give too much time or attention to negative criticism.

It can hinder your creative process.

We all want everyone to love our art but that just doesn’t happen.

Don’t let it get you down.

Keep on rocking and remember you are the only one who can do what you do.

Do you have anything new or upcoming we can expect to see from you?

I will be releasing two singles before the summer, and a full album in the late fall.

The two singles I will be releasing killing time and radio were recorded and produced by Jim Wirt and mixed by legendary Canadian producer Mike Fraser who I will be working with in studio on some of the final songs for the album.
